Sarah Jones / Mrs Rawlins Lowndes

Born ca. 1757
Married Charleston 2nd February 1773
Died, probably, in a carriage accident 1801

Daughter, according to the Dictionary of American Biography, vol. 11, to Col. Charles Jones of Georgia, she was the third wife of Rawlins Lowndes 1721 - 1800 and mother to William Jones Lowndes 1782 - 1882.   Thus, remarkably, she was wife to one well regarded politician and mother to another.

Museum officers are keen to learn more about Sarah Jones who married Rawlins Lowndes.    Although her menfolk are well documented, Sarah herself remains, frustratingly, a mysterious figure.   Anyone with information on her is invited to contact the museum's director for collections and programs at the address below.  The compiler of this website, Charles Hillman, would also welcome a copy of any biographical information
